A little bit about me…
I grew up surrounded by the smells of good cooking – at home we ate many different sorts of food and I loved standing at the hob stirring and inhaling the fresh new aromas that came as each spice was added. Our food was inspired by various world cuisines but it was always down-to-earth and unpretentious.
I first started to take a real interest in cooking for myself a few years ago when I moved away from home to go to uni. I’ve been a vegetarian for about 15 years and I can be a picky eater so cooking my own food just makes sense. Fortunately, I was living with friends who love food as much as I do and we were able to share our enthusiasm for creating great meals. We cooked up many impressive feasts together and often the table was groaning under the weight of our dishes.
I believe that vegetarian food needs to be about much more than mushroom burgers and stuffed peppers. Good vegetarian food showcases its ingredients and moves beyond simply trying to create substitutes for meat. This blog is my attempt to create greater variety in my own cooking and to discover new ingredients by cooking at least one new recipe each week.
